Standards & Compliance

CSA Z259 Fall Protection Standards

Every product we sell is certified to the applicable CSA Z259 sub-standard. Here's what that means for your equipment.

Harnesses & Belts

Z259.10 & Z259.1

Full body harnesses must meet Z259.10. Body belts fall under Z259.1. All harnesses carry the correct certification for Canadian job sites.

  • Z259.10 — Full body harnesses
  • Z259.1 — Body belts & saddles
Connectors & Lanyards

Z259.11

Energy-absorbing lanyards and connecting hardware are tested to Z259.11 for Canadian fall arrest loads.

  • Z259.11 — Energy absorbers & lanyards
  • Z259.12 — Connecting components
Self-Retracting Devices

Z259.2.2

SRDs must meet Z259.2.2 in Canada — governing retraction force, arrest distance, and strength. Critical for rooftop work.

  • Z259.2.2 — Self-retracting devices
  • Leading edge & standard configurations
Anchors

Z259.15 & Z259.16

Roof anchors must be certified to Z259.15. Engineered anchor systems for structures fall under Z259.16.

  • Z259.15 — Fall arrest anchors
  • Z259.16 — Design for structures

FAQ

Common
Questions
Answered

Everything Canadian contractors, roofers, and safety managers ask about fall protection equipment, standards, and regulations.

Ask a Specialist
01What height requires fall protection in Canada?
In most Canadian provinces, fall protection is required at 3 metres (approximately 10 feet) or higher. Some sectors — like residential construction in Ontario — have specific rules. Always consult your provincial OH&S regulation and your employer's written safety plan for your specific work type.
02Can I use US ANSI-certified fall protection in Canada?
Generally, no. Most Canadian provincial OH&S regulations specifically require CSA-certified equipment. ANSI/OSHA-rated products may perform to similar technical levels, but the CSA mark is the legal requirement on Canadian job sites. We only stock CSA Z259-certified products.
03What's the difference between an SRD and a lanyard?
A shock-absorbing lanyard is a fixed 6-foot connection — in a fall you drop the full 6 feet before arrest. A self-retracting device (SRD) keeps constant tension and arrests a fall within inches, dramatically reducing fall distance and injury risk. For most roofing work in Canada, an SRD is the preferred choice.
04How often must fall protection equipment be inspected?
Canadian regulations require a visual inspection by the user before every use. Equipment must also be formally inspected by a competent person at regular intervals — most manufacturers recommend annually at minimum. Any equipment that has arrested a fall must be immediately removed from service and inspected before reuse.
05What anchor do I need for a metal roof in Canada?
Metal roofs require anchors specifically engineered for the panel profile — standing seam, corrugated, and exposed fastener panels each need a different anchor design. All anchors must be certified to CSA Z259.15. We carry systems for all major metal roofing profiles and can help you identify the correct product for your specific roof.
06Do you ship fall protection equipment across Canada?
Yes — we ship to all 10 provinces and all three territories. Orders over $199 ship free. We stock inventory in Canada for fast delivery to Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec, and all other regions. No cross-border delays or duty surprises.
