Every snow guard we stock is one of two materials. Polycarbonate guards are clear or colour-matched, low-profile and near-invisible from the ground. Metal guards are 304 stainless and aluminum — more holding strength per guard, powder-coated to match your panel. Both mount on standing seam and screw-down roofs, both ship from Paris, Ontario in Canadian dollars, duty-free.

Polycarbonate Snow Guards

Clear guards disappear against the panel; coloured guards are moulded through, so a scratch never shows a different colour underneath. Bond them with SB-190 or 3M adhesive on standing seam, or screw them down on exposed-fastener panels.

Polycarbonate vs Metal, Answered
Which material holds more snow?
Metal, per guard. A stainless SnowCatcher carries more load than a polycarbonate guard of the same footprint, so a metal layout uses fewer pieces. On a typical residential roof polycarbonate is plenty once the guard count is right for your snow load — which is what a warrantied quote works out for you.
Will polycarbonate guards yellow or crack in a Canadian winter?
No. These are UV-stabilised polycarbonate — the same family as safety glazing — rated for continuous outdoor exposure and freeze-thaw cycling. Coloured guards are moulded through rather than painted, so a scratch never shows a different colour underneath.
Can I mix the two on one roof?
Yes, and it's common — metal over doorways, walkways and mechanical equipment where the consequence of a slide is highest, polycarbonate across the rest of the roof. Tell us where the exposure points are and we'll lay it out.
Does either one void my panel warranty?
Adhesive polycarbonate guards and seam-mounted metal guards don't pierce the panel at all, so there's nothing to void. Screw-down guards in either material fasten through gaskets and sealed washers into the structure — the same way the roof's own screws do — and are no leakier than the panel itself.
How many guards do I actually need?
It depends on roof size, pitch, panel profile and your region's ground snow load — there's no safe universal number. Send your roof dimensions, pitch and town and we'll return a warrantied layout, usually within one business day.
