Snow Rail Systems Engineered For Every Canadian Metal Roof

A SnoBar® snow rail — also called a snow bar or rail system — is a continuous bar in 1.8 m (6 ft) sections that holds the entire snowfield on a metal roof. Clamp-on models grip standing seam panels with no penetrations; screw-down and corrugated kits bolt through with sealed gaskets. Every system ships from Paris, Ontario — duty-free, in Canadian dollars.

The rail

Galvanized steel (SnoBar®) or colour-matched aluminum (ColorBar®) in 1.8 m (6 ft) sections, joined end-to-end across the roof face.

The clamps

Stainless seam clamps with nylon-tipped set screws — they bite the seam without piercing it, protecting the panel warranty.

The brackets

Screw-down and corrugated kits use gasketed brackets, sealed through the panel into purlins — spacing matched to your panel flat.

The layout

Row count and placement come from your roof dimensions, pitch and local snow load — confirmed free in your warrantied quote.

Know the terms

Snow rail & metal roof glossary

Standing seam (clamp-on)
A metal roof whose panels join at raised vertical seams with no exposed screws. Rail systems attach with clamps that grip the seam — no holes in the panel, so the roof warranty stays intact.
Screw-down / exposed fastener
Panels (PBR, AG panel, R-panel) fastened with visible screws through the metal into purlins. Rails mount with gasketed brackets, sealed through the panel flat.
Corrugated 67.8 mm (2.67″)
The classic round-wave profile, measured 67.8 mm (2.67 in) crest to crest. Needs purpose-shaped brackets that follow the curve — a standard flat bracket won't seal.
Bulb & T-seam
Architectural standing seams shaped like a bulb or "T" at the top. Standard clamps can't grip them — the RCB-3 kit is built for these profiles.
Single bar vs double bar
A single bar runs one rail across the roof face; a double bar runs two, capturing both the base snow layer and the upper field — the spec for snowbelt regions and long rafter runs.
Snow rail / snow bar / snow pipe
Regional names for the same thing: bar-style snow retention that holds the entire snowfield, versus pad-style guards which hold it at points. SnoBar® and ColorBar® are engineered rail systems.
Ground snow load (NBCC Ss/Sr)
The design snow weight for your location from the National Building Code of Canada, in kilopascals (kPa). It drives how many rows your roof needs — we look yours up for every warrantied quote.
Purlins (wood or steel)
The horizontal framing under the roof panel that screw-down brackets anchor into. Bracket spacing options in our kits are matched to purlin type and panel flat width.

Quick answers

Snow rail questions, answered

Are snow rails, snow bars and rail systems the same thing?

Yes — "snow rail," "snow bar," "snow pipe" and "rail system" all describe the same bar-style snow retention: a continuous rail across the roof face that holds the snowfield in place. SnoBar® and ColorBar® are the engineered versions of this system, in single and double bar configurations.

Do SnoBar systems penetrate the roof?

Clamp-on standing seam systems don't — stainless clamps with nylon-tipped set screws grip the seam without piercing the panel. Screw-down and corrugated kits do fasten through the panel, using gasketed, sealed brackets designed for exposed-fastener roofs.

Which clamp fits my seam profile?

Standard clamps fit roughly 95% of Canadian standing seam profiles; bulb and T-seams use the RCB-3 kit. Send a photo of your seam with your quote request and we'll confirm fit before you order.

How many rows of snow rail do I need?

It depends on your roof's dimensions, pitch and local ground snow load — there's no safe universal number. We calculate it free and back it with a warrantied quote, usually within one business day.

SnoBar® or ColorBar® — what's the difference?

Same engineering, different finish: SnoBar® is galvanized steel; ColorBar® is aluminum, powder-coated to match your roof from the colour chart. Both come in single and double bar configurations.

Do you ship rail systems across Canada?

Yes — every province and territory, from our warehouse in Paris, Ontario. Prices are in Canadian dollars with stock already in Canada: no duties, no brokerage, no border delays.
